Thanks, in General

This weekend, most of us in the United States celebrated the holiday of Thanksgiving.  It is the time of year when we, specifically, are supposed to reflect on our blessings and take time to be thankful.  And eat a lot of turkey and pumpkin pie.  And do our part to stimulate the economy.  But mostly, we're supposed to take time to be thankful for our blessings.

My family and I had dinner with some of my parents' friends.  My responsibility was green bean casserole, which people seemed to enjoy.  There was a full house, as always, and everyone seemed to have a nice time.

Throughout the day, I did think several times of my friend Dave, who has just lost his brother.  Mike's funeral actually took place on Monday, just a few days before Thanksgiving.  It is so sad that they had to say goodbye to Mike, who was so young.  So many of my friends have suffered losses this year. This did make me appreciate so much more that I am enjoying another holiday with my family.

While at dinner, we made plans for Christmas.  The hosts have already purchased the turkey - I will be be responsible for green bean casserole again, like I said, people seemed to enjoy it.  We will have plenty of food on the table and a comfortable home to enjoy the meal and plenty of people to share it with.  We really do have a lot to be thankful for.  I've forgotten that a few times this year, and it was good to remember.

I did not go Black Friday shopping, although I did briefly do some shopping online. My parents were here, and we had a nice visit.  Then, I enjoyed one of my Thanksgiving weekend traditions and watched A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott.  I hope that I will be in a better frame of mind this week at work, since this entire month I have been stressed out and kind of crabby.  A Christmas Carol usually helps me get back in the spirit.

I have plans to get back to Milwaukee in a few weeks, and I am really looking forward to seeing some of my friends and reconnect during the holidays.  I am blessed to have made so many friends in so many different places.  Sometimes, I forget that too, and again, it is good to be reminded.
